Keeping Valley Ranch Beautiful for Future Generations
Decades ago, scientists realized the serious impact of litter on the nation’s waterways and the animals depending on these ecosystems. In recent years, notable reductions in waste have been made, thanks to the awareness from trash campaigns and national organizations. Additionally, scientific advancement produced biodegradable goods that cause less harm and automatic waste collectors, such as the IFCD3 waste shark Scoop. These efforts also have influenced many to implement daily changes in their homes like reducing household waste and implementing conservation practices.
So much has already taken place, but ensuring the continued health and safety of our community and waterways is a long term effort. On the surface, trash is unpleasant and reflects poorly on a community. Furthermore, trash causes water and air pollution that could aggravate allergies and other illnesses.
Many events in the Metroplex have been implemented emphasizing the importance of protecting the environment, including Earth Day, which is celebrated on April 22 annually. Despite having specific days of recognition, the health and beauty of the community should be highlighted year-round. Many organizations, national and local, do impressive work to push these efforts forward. Locally, we’re fortunate to have Keep Irving Beautiful.
Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB), the local arm of Keep America Beautiful, promotes creation of a trash-free environment in Irving. Simultaneously, Valley Ranch demonstrates a residential and business setting that takes advantage of the unique features of this area in Irving through community clean-up efforts.
KIB educates the community about litter reduction, recycling and beautification to preserve the health, social and economic prosperity of the city. Throughout the year, its community efforts like Adopt-A-Spot and Trash Bash pull the community in to this common goal—a trash-free Irving community.
The lasting effects of trash efforts from Keep Irving Beautiful and similar organizations pave the way for a safer, cleaner Valley Ranch and greater Irving area for generations to come. Support for these efforts reflects well on the people of Valley Ranch and could play an integral role in managing the impact of severe weather on local waterways, which keeps communities safe and protected.
As Earth Day quickly approaches, it’s a great time to become more acquainted with community efforts to keep Valley Ranch trash-free. The Valley Ranch Association (VRA) hosts its Green Club to protect and enhance Valley Ranch’s natural resources. Keep up with the latest Keep Irving Beautiful events and updates on Twitter and Facebook, and continue to follow IFCD3 on Twitter and Facebook for ways to protect local waterways.
