IFCD 3’s Annual School Education Program
It’s that time of year again! Our team wrapped up another successful program with Valley Ranch Elementary School’s second-grade class during their weather unit.
In January, IFCD 3 team members visited VRE’s library to present to the students about flood control and IFCD 3’s role in the community. At the end of the presentation, the second-grade teachers introduced a hands-on project to the students, tasking them with building their own flood control models.
As a close to the unit, IFCD 3 representatives met with each group of students to learn about their construction strategy and test their models. The groups were scored based on creativity, thought process and their model’s ability to manage flooding.
Not only were the students educated on the role of IFCD 3 and flood control in the community, but our own IFCD 3 team members were inspired by the genuine interest, excitement and wonder each student had for learning about something so crucial to the neighborhood they live in.
On behalf of the entire IFCD 3 team, thank you to the Valley Ranch Elementary staff for continuing to partner with IFCD 3. We’re happy to be a part of your extended community team.
We’re currently exploring the development of a pilot program for homeschool students that provides a similar project to our program with VRA. If you’d be interested in taking advantage of such a program, we encourage you to let us know by contacting us here.
