Importance of Trash Pickup in Irving

Trash is inevitable but it’s also something that can’t be ignored. Whether it’s the plastic packaging that covers our food, the paper cups provided in the drive-thru line or the cardboard boxes our packages arrive in, proper disposal of these items is important to keeping our community’s streets, parks and waterways clean.

The City of Irving and local organizations work to reduce litter in several ways.

Waste Services – Putting your trash directly into the waste bin gives it the best chance of making it onto a trash truck and eventually to a landfill. In Irving, waste services are conducted twice per week. You can visit the program page to view the schedule for your neighborhood and learn the guidelines for waste disposal.

While utilizing waste services is the ideal trash collection method, we recognize that this is a best-case scenario, and not all trash makes it into the bin to begin with. This requires our community to utilize other, more creative methods of collection.

Manual Collection and ASVs – Litter in our waterways can harm wildlife and slow down the effectiveness of our flood control system by clogging pipes and drains. IFCD 3 leverages manual trash collection and our new autonomous surface vessel (ASV), Scoop, to keep our waterways clean.

Volunteering – Keep Irving Beautiful hosts year-round clean-up events to ensure that our community’s parks and paths stay clean.

If you’re interested in pitching in to help keep the City of Irving trash-free, join Keep Irving Beautiful for their Annual Trash Bash on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at T.W. Richardson Grove Park! The event will feature a cleanup of the Campion Trail, vendor tables for IFCD 3 and other local organizations, educational activities and a free lunch for participating volunteers.
