Meet the IFCD 3 Board: Chris J. Calvery
Back in November, we kicked off our latest Waterways series, Meet the IFCD 3 Board, where we interview different IFCD 3 board members about their background, their hobbies and their interest in flood control. Continuing with this series, we’re sharing our interview with Chris J. Calvery, IFCD 3 President, below.
Q: Tell us about your educational and professional background.
A: I attended Southern Methodist University where I received my Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems and Services. After that, I joined WebTPA, a third-party administrator in the health insurance arena. I started out as a software developer and worked my way up to where I am now: Vice President of Business Operations.
Q: How does your education and/or professional background contribute to your service for the District?
A: After 22 years of working in health insurance, first moving from professions like a software developer, account executive, Director of Implementations and Project Management and leading to the position I’m in now, I’ve worked closely on various accounts and one-on-one with clients. Working to solve client problems has taught me to face challenges logically.
Q: What motivated you to join the board?
A: I’m an Irving native and I’ve always been interested in being involved and giving back to our community. Becoming a part of various local boards is one of the best ways I can do just that. In tandem with IFCD 3, I also serve on the Irving Symphony Orchestra Association board.
Q: What is your favorite part about living in Valley Ranch?
A: I love being active and spending time outdoors. The canals and access trails that we have in Valley Ranch are beautiful features to the community. They make the neighborhood charming and capture the beauty of our location.
Q: Where do you see Valley Ranch in five years and how does IFCD 3 support this vision?
A: I see Valley Ranch continuing to grow and provide its residents with opportunities to thrive. It’s a key location to live in for those working across Dallas-Fort Worth and I don’t see that going away. The partnership IFCD 3 has with Valley Ranch Association (VRA) and other entities in the community already do amazing things for the community and I see relationships like these flourishing further to support Valley Ranch and its residents.
