Using Plants to Help Prevent Erosion in Valley Ranch

 

Erosion is typically defined as the wearing away of land by water, wind or ice. On a large scale, you can thank erosion for the beautiful mountain peaks, valleys and coastlines around the world. However, on a local level, erosion along Valley Ranch’s waterways can lead to less control over rain water during major storms.

Although erosion is a naturally occurring process, it can be sped up by human impact. To address and slow the process of erosion along Valley Ranch’s waterways, IFCD 3 utilizes specific plants, along with concrete spill ways, masonry walls and other tools to control water and reduce erosion caused by runoff. Next time you pass by one of Valley Ranch’s waterways, keep an eye out for water lilies, cattails and other erosion control plants – particularly around the sump – that have been planted throughout the last decade for the purpose of reducing erosion.
