Who Manages Valley Ranch’s Water?
After sharing last month’s Waterways blog about Valley Ranch’s water sources, we received questions on social media about who manages the water in our community before and after it’s used by Valley Ranch residents and businesses. In today’s blog, we’re answering this question and highlighting the organizations that oversee Valley Ranch’s water.
Water management in Valley Ranch is a collaborative effort involving two main organizations. The Irving Water Utilities Department ensures Irving residents have access to safe and clean drinking water. This department is made up of nine divisions, including Water Pumping and Water Distribution. These divisions oversee the distribution and allocation of clean water throughout the community and maintain specialized water distribution pumps. Once water has been used within a residential or commercial property, Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment make sure used water can be transported out of homes and businesses to a facility where it can be treated.
In addition to the water that may come through your home or office, Valley Ranch also stores thousands of gallons of water within the 5.5 miles of waterways woven throughout the community. These waterways are managed by Irving Flood Control District III (IFCD 3). IFCD 3 works to provide and maintain necessary flood control and drainage facilities, overseeing the construction and maintenance of the levee, pump station, canals, ponds and other storm drainage management facilities.
As we continue to educate community members on the roles and responsibilities of IFCD 3 and other local organizations, we encourage you to also review our previous Waterways blog which highlights the types of flooding that IFCD 3 does and doesn’t manage.
