Welcome to iFCD 3 for Kids!

Let’s learn about weather and flood control.

About IFCD 3 For Kids

Irving Flood Control District III (IFCD 3) was created in 1983 to provide flood control to Valley Ranch in Irving, Texas. Over the past 40 years, IFCD 3 has created and maintained 5.5 miles of waterways to provide excess storm water with a controlled path to return to the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. IFCD 3 currently serves 30,000 residents and businesses in the Valley Ranch Community.

In addition to providing flood control to Valley Ranch, we also work hard to educate the community about what we do and why we’re vital to Valley Ranch’s success. As part of this education, we launched a partnership with local elementary schools in 2017 to teach second and third grade classes about flood control. Over the past six years, we’ve sparked students’ interest in weather, flood control and engineering, through our annual flood control project.

While we continue our partnership with local elementary schools, we’ve also received requests to modify the lesson course for an online, self-guided format that makes flood control education available to a wider range of students. The video and downloadable activity book will provide elementary school students with an introduction to weather patterns and flood control, through the eyes of Valley Ranch. Enjoy!
